Kathy Buntings Story: Beating Breast Cancer, Trekking 100k for Coppafeel, and returning to her home society Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society.
In November 2020 our dear longstanding member and ex-Chairman, Kathy Bunting, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Following a yearlong treatment she was thankfully given the all clear and since then she has made it her mission to raise awareness around Breast Cancer. From 11th – 17th June 2022 she took part in a 100k trek across the Pembrokeshire coast, which was organised by the charity Coppafeel. The trek was led by notable faces including Giovanna Fletcher (Author), Megan Jayne Crabbe (Influencer), and Amy Dowden (Strictly Come Dancing). Kathy raised over £5,000 for Coppafeel and has made lifelong friends from the experience. Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society (ALGSS) are delighted to welcome back Kathy for her first full production since her recovery and to have cast her in the title role, Iolanthe. No ALGSS production is quite the same without Kathy’s exuberance and good nature.
ALGSS’s next production, Iolanthe, will be performed at Watford Palace Theatre from Thursday 2 – 4th February 2022. Performances take place at 7.30pm each evening, plus there will be a 2.30pm Matinee performance on Saturday 4th February. This will be our 8th production of Iolanthe since ALGSS was formed in 1950 and we are thrilled to welcome back director, Linda Dyne, and musical director, Peter Jones.
Tickets are available at www.watfordpalacetheatre.co.uk or by calling 01923 225 671.
About Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society
The Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society has performed the G&S operas annually since its foundation in September 1950. We have remained firmly based in the village of Abbots Langley, although now our members come from a much wider area. Gone are the days when, as quoted after the very first production, ‘You could meet the whole cast by walking up and down Abbots Langley High Street.’
As well as our main annual production, we also perform a small production each year at our local village hall, The Henderson Hub. Our principal venue for over 50 years has been the Watford Palace Theatre.
The society is over 70 years old, and we are seeing second and third generation members performing with us. There have been many relationships, marriages and families formed through the society. These close ties have always made our group a fun and friendly experience, and new members are always welcome.
