Many years ago the Fairy Queen banished Iolanthe from Fairyland for marrying a mortal. Now, Iolanthe’s son, Strephon, wishes to marry Phyllis. However he cannot do so without the permission of her guardian, the Lord Chancellor, who shows little enthusiasm for his ward marrying a mere shepherd…
